A tragic incident shook the national manufacturing sector after a powerful explosion destroyed a herbal processing facility in the Central Java industrial area on Wednesday (1/7/2026). The event claimed the life of one worker and left seven others injured, forcing the government to re-evaluate Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards across all industrial lines.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the explosion was triggered by an undetected extreme temperature spike in the sterilization system of a high-pressure machine. This malfunction resulted in severe structural damage to the production room within a short period. All affected victims have been evacuated to dr. Adhyatma, MPH Regional General Hospital (RSUD) to receive intensive medical treatment.
Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita emphasized that this incident serves as a stern warning to industry players not to ignore machine maintenance procedures. The government stressed that negligence in equipment calibration and periodic monitoring of high-risk machinery poses a real threat to the safety of field workers' lives.
As a follow-up measure, all factory operations have been temporarily suspended to support the investigation of the crime scene (TKP) by the police. Directorate General of Agro-Industry, along with relevant authorities, is currently investigating elements of criminal negligence in this incident to ensure the company management's accountability for the operational standards applied.
This incident highlights the importance of corporate commitment to consistently implementing OHS to protect the national workforce.
