Indonesia and Belarus are taking concrete steps to strengthen diplomatic relations that have spanned 33 years. The main focus of this collaboration is on strengthening the health sector, which will be formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) at the Merdeka Palace.
This agreement was finalized in a meeting between the Deputy Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, Dante Saksono Harbuwono, and the Minister of Health of Belarus, Aliaksandr Khajayeu, in Jakarta. Deputy Health Minister Dante emphasized that this cooperation aims to complement the capabilities of both countries' health systems, focusing on two main pillars: medical education and strengthening the pharmaceutical industry.
In the area of capacity building for medical personnel, Indonesia plans to hold an international fellowship program. The target specialization fields include cardiology, oncology, neurology, urology, nephrology, and maternal and child health. The Indonesian Ministry of Health is committed to facilitating the exchange of experts, where delegations of Indonesian doctors will be sent to Belarus to study leading programs, while experts from Belarus are scheduled to provide direct training in Indonesia.
The pharmaceutical sector is also a highlight of this cooperation roadmap. The Indonesian government is encouraging collaboration between national pharmaceutical manufacturers and the Belarusian company, Belpharmprom. This step is expected to expand access to medical device distribution and facilitate drug registration, given that the pharmaceutical regulatory standards of both countries are considered to be aligned.
As a form of long-term implementation, the two countries have drawn up the Operational Road Map 2026–2030. This roadmap is designed so that each cooperation program can run in a measurable and sustainable manner. As a symbol of commitment to health transformation, the Belarusian delegation also directly inspected the facilities at the National Brain Center Hospital (RS PON) Jakarta, which is the reference for comprehensive neurological services in Indonesia.
