President Prabowo Subianto officially stated full support for the plan to establish Indian university campuses in Indonesia. This strategic move includes the construction of renowned educational institutions, namely the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), as a concrete effort to deepen bilateral cooperation in the education sector.
The statement was delivered by President Prabowo following a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday (7/7/2026). In addition to the physical construction of campuses, both countries are also committed to increasing the intensity of student exchange programs to expand educational access for Indonesian youth in India.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that this initiative is driven by a shared vision in facing 21st-century challenges that rely heavily on technology. According to him, the productive youth demographics of Indonesia and India serve as key assets to optimize this potential. The IIM Bangalore campus is projected not only to serve Indonesian students but also to become a capacity-building hub for youth across the ASEAN region.
Beyond the education sector, the two leaders also agreed to strengthen partnerships in cutting-edge technology. The cooperation encompasses artificial intelligence (AI) development, telecommunication infrastructure expansion, digital public infrastructure construction, and startup ecosystem facilitation. The government hopes all these agreements will be implemented soon to deliver tangible positive impacts for the broader public.
