YOGYAKARTA — The Head of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) 1 Yogyakarta, Edi Triyanto, attended an international workshop titled "Strengthening Teachers’ Science and Technology Literacy Through Coaching Program". The event, which took place from July 29–31, 2026, was organized by the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FMIPA UGM) to improve the quality of science teaching at the secondary school level.
Held at the Herman Johannes Auditorium, Building D, FMIPA UGM, this strategic agenda aims to strengthen partnerships between higher education institutions and madrasahs. The opening of the event was attended directly by the Dean of FMIPA UGM, Prof. Dr. Eng. Kuwat Triyana, and the Vice Rector of UGM for Education and Teaching, Prof. Dr. Wening Udasmoro, who also inaugurated the cooperation through the signing of a memorandum of understanding.
During the workshop, educators received presentations from international experts. One of them was Prof. Tuan Hsiao-Lin from National Changhua University of Education, Taiwan, who highlighted the importance of inquiry-based learning methods. This method trains teachers not just to deliver theory, but to guide students in conducting independent scientific observations and investigations.
In addition, practical perspectives on science teaching in Taiwan were presented by Dr. Hung Yi Wen. Participants were also provided with practical material on medical biosensor technology innovation by postdoctoral researcher Dr. Eng. Trisna Julian, as well as national policies regarding the preparation of future science talents through the Garuda School by Prof. Dr. Eng. Yudi Darma.
Responding to this participation, the Head of MAN 1 Yogyakarta, Edi Triyanto, stated that synergy with top universities is a crucial step to produce a generation that is adaptive to modern technological developments. He committed to implementing the workshop results to build a stronger research culture within the madrasah environment to compete on national and global stages.
