The development of the Masela Block National Strategic Project (PSN) is expected not only to support national energy security but also to create a new integrated business ecosystem in the Pacific and Arafura Sea regions. The presence of this mega project is considered crucial for strengthening economic development synergy in Eastern Indonesia.
This optimism was expressed by the Chairman of the Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo) Papua, Moses Amukwaman Ratusa Buarlele, in Jakarta on Saturday (1/8/2026). According to the Tanimbar Islands native, the Masela Block has great potential to trigger solid investment collaboration between Maluku Province, Papua, and surrounding areas.
Moses emphasized the importance of active participation from the local community so they do not merely become spectators amidst the abundance of their region's natural resources. He hopes this large-scale project can birth new young entrepreneurs in the Tanimbar Islands who are ready to compete in the modern business climate.
The multiplier effect of the Masela Block's operations is projected to stimulate growth in various supporting sectors in Tanimbar, ranging from the hospitality, transportation, culinary, to logistics sectors. This transformation is expected to change the face of the Tanimbar Islands into a new center of economic growth in Maluku.
To ensure these benefits are directly felt by the local community, Moses requested that local governments commit to protecting indigenous rights. The government was also urged to oversee the implementation of a local workforce absorption quota of at least 20 to 30 percent for the sons and daughters of the Tanimbar and Maluku regions.
In addition to workforce absorption, he also highlighted the importance of involving local businesses in the project's supply chain. Partnerships with main vendors must create opportunities for local business players in the supply of goods, construction services, and daily operational activities.
