The dream of students at the Filial Elementary School (SD) in RT 17, Gunung Tabur Subdistrict, Berau Regency, to have decent learning facilities will soon become a reality. This follows a concrete commitment from PT Tanjung Redeb Hutani (TRH) to build a permanent school building in the area.
The certainty of this construction emerged during a meeting between the management of PT TRH and the Vice Regent of Berau, Gamalis. The company has committed to lending operational land as well as fully funding the physical construction of the school building, which will eventually be equipped with seven new classrooms.
The Vice Regent of Berau, Gamalis, expressed high appreciation for the initiative and social care shown by PT TRH. He emphasized that active collaboration between local government and the private sector is key to expanding access to quality education in remote areas.
This new facility is expected to be a concrete solution to the classroom limitations previously experienced by Gunung Tabur Filial Elementary School students. The presence of a permanent building is believed to increase comfort and learning motivation for both children and educators.
The Head of the Berau Education Department, Mardiatul Idalisah, explained that the school operates as a remote classroom attached to SDN 01 Birang. This service is deliberately maintained so that children in remote areas do not lose the opportunity to go to school due to excessive geographical distance.
Previously, the teaching and learning process had to temporarily take place in local residents' homes on a voluntary basis. An option to mobilize students to the main school using free school buses was trialed but deemed less effective, making the construction of a school in the nearest location the most realistic solution.
