The Ternate City Government continues to strengthen the social safety net system for its citizens. During the virtual evaluation of the 2026 Jamsostek Award for North Maluku Province, the Mayor of Ternate, Dr. H. M. Tauhid Soleman, presented various tactical measures taken by his administration to expand the coverage of employment social security, which has now reached 73.45 percent.
The successful increase in coverage is supported by the Ternate City Government's consistency in providing protection for various worker groups. This service targets formal workers, non-permanent staff (honorer), part-time government employees with work agreements (PPPK Paruh Waktu), as well as community figures such as neighborhood association (RT/RW) heads and mosque imams. Additionally, this social security is also distributed to vulnerable workers, including motorcycle taxi (ojek) drivers, fishermen, farmers, traders, and sanitation workers.
Not only focusing on the informal and vulnerable sectors, the Ternate City Government is now taking a progressive step by entering the sports sector. BPJS Ketenagakerjaan protection, in the form of Work Accident Insurance (JKK) and Death Benefits (JKM), is now provided to athletes competing in the Porprov Tobelo and Popda Morotai events, as well as local soccer coaches.
This step was taken to mitigate the high risk of physical injury during competition, while also serving as a form of appreciation for the dedication of sports figures in bringing pride to the region. Supported by a planned regional budget (APBD) allocation, the Ternate City Government is optimistic that comprehensive and sustainable employment protection can be achieved to support the vision of building an independent and equitable partnership.
