The Madiun City Government transformed the City Hall courtyard into an arena for youth talent in the Madiun Street Competition. The festival, held as part of the celebrations for the 108th Anniversary of Madiun City, aims to provide a space for extreme sports and street art communities to showcase their skills positively.
The event attracted hundreds of participants competing in various urban sports and art branches, such as 3x3 basketball, skateboarding, BMX, mural art, and breakdance. Since the morning, the enthusiasm of the public and participants was evident as they packed the city hall area to watch the high-energy performances.
Acting Mayor of Madiun, Bagus Panuntun, explained that the Madiun Street Competition was created to address the lack of space for self-expression among the younger generation who love urban sports and street art. He hopes that through this competition, sportsmanship and collaboration between communities can be strengthened to advance regional potential.
As a long-term commitment, the local government plans to transform the City Hall courtyard into a sports-friendly public space, including installing permanent basketball hoop facilities. Full support also came from the East Java Provincial Board of Perbasi (Indonesian Basketball Association), which provided portable courts to scout potential basketball athletes starting from school age.
This positive step was warmly welcomed by extreme sports and visual arts enthusiasts. They hope that similar competitions can be consistently accommodated every year with increasingly adequate supporting facilities to nurture new talented achievers from Madiun City.
