The Makassar City Government continues its commitment to supporting the development of the sport tourism sector in its region. One concrete step is pushing the annual running event "7th Makassar SMAnSA Run 2026" to be included in the regional featured sports events calendar.
This desire was expressed directly by the Mayor of Makassar, Munafri Arifuddin, while attending and officially opening the sports event initiated by the Alumni Association of SMAN 1 Makassar (IKA SMANSA) and SMAnSA Runners Makassar on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Sunday (2/7/2026). Munafri appreciated the consistency of organizing the event, which has now entered its seventh year.
According to Munafri, the survival of this event for seven years proves the strong commitment of the alumni to organizing quality events. He hopes that the SMAnSA Run will not only be a gathering place but also transform into a new tourist magnet capable of attracting runners from outside the region.
During the event, Mayor Munafri, together with the Chairman of the SMAnSA Run, Azhar Gazali, symbolically conducted the flag-off ceremony to release the participants. The release of the 10-kilometer category was carried out at 05:50 WITA, followed by the 5-kilometer category ten minutes later. Rather than just opening the event, Munafri also participated as a runner and successfully completed the 10-kilometer route to the finish line.
The Makassar City Government hopes that active collaborations like this can continue to improve the city's hospitality for tourists. Through improving the quality of various sports events, Makassar is expected to become increasingly ready to host various national-scale sports events in the future.
