iPhone users are now urged to be more vigilant about a technical glitch in the form of a bug that causes the 'System Data' category to bloat unnaturally. This issue is reported to consume storage space of up to over 100 GB, directly impacting the overall degradation of device performance.
This uncontrolled bloating of storage capacity triggers a number of operational issues, ranging from device slowdowns, failures when downloading new applications, to obstacles in updating the iOS operating system. This condition is certainly detrimental to users who rely on the full functionality of their devices.
According to a technical report from TechRadar, the most comprehensive solution to address this issue is to back up all data via iCloud, then perform a device restore using Device Firmware Update (DFU) mode. This method works by reinstalling the firmware and operating system, which effectively deletes piled-up cache files or corrupted system data.
Apart from the DFU method, there is a simpler preventive step for users, which is to update iOS to the latest version. Apple regularly releases security patches and bug fixes specifically designed to address storage management anomalies. Additionally, regularly restarting the device is also recommended to help the system refresh background processes that might be stuck.
