The management of the Mount Lawu Climbing Route has officially imposed a two-year blacklist sanction on open trip service provider Shohibul Alam and three of their crew members. This firm decision was taken following repeated violations of me climbing regulations, particularly regarding the refusal to use local porter services when trekking via the Candi Cetho route.
Head of Operations and Development at the Regional Public Company (PUD) Aneka Usaha Karanganyar, Titin Riyadiningsih, confirmed that the disciplinary violation occurred when the group brought 20 climbers on July 11-12. The incident caught public attention after video footage went viral on social media.
According to management records, Shohibul Alam had received two warnings prior to this decisive action. The violations included failing to officially coordinate with the management, failing to engage local porters, and causing traffic bottlenecks for descending climbers due to poor group management.
Confusion also occurred in the group's administrative system. The organizer used three registration forms simultaneously, complicating the check-out attendance process. Furthermore, the absence of a clear person-in-charge caused group congestion and sparked disputes at the registration post (basecamp).
In response to this third violation, the organizer finally signed a stamped letter of admission of guilt. With the two-year blacklist sanction in effect, all Shohibul Alam crew members are strictly prohibited from conducting climbing activities or guiding trips across all Mount Lawu routes. Management also urged all tour operators to consistently abide by the rules for mutual safety.
