The Pekanbaru Ring Road Toll Road construction project has entered a new chapter with the implementation of cutting-edge digital technology. PT Hutama Karya Infrastruktur (HKI) is integrating Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology up to the 7D level to optimize the entire project lifecycle, from the planning stage, physical execution, budget control, to long-term asset management.
HKI Secretary, Resnu Aditya Wuladarman, explained that the use of BIM in this project goes beyond conventional three-dimensional (3D) visualization. This system covers 2D to 7D dimensions, allowing all technical information, construction phases, and cost data to be managed centrally in an interconnected and measurable digital ecosystem.
To support this integration, HKI is also implementing a Common Data Environment (CDE) system. This platform serves as a digital project document management hub, allowing all stakeholders to access up-to-date data—such as technical drawings and design revisions—in real-time. This is considered crucial to minimize the risk of errors resulting from the use of out-of-sync data in the field.
On the field operations side, the construction team utilizes drone photogrammetry-based digital survey technology. This innovation is capable of accelerating the verification process of embankment work progress with a higher level of accuracy, which is then used as the main reference for calculating work volumes and project payment processes.
The synergy between BIM, CDE, and digital survey technologies creates a leaner and more transparent workflow. Supported by this technology, the construction of the Pekanbaru Ring Road Toll Road is expected to be completed on target by February 2027, while ensuring more precise infrastructure quality that can be managed effectively in the future.
