The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Lebak Regency has officially urged fishermen along the southern coast to stay away from the area around Mount Anak Krakatau (GAK), located in the northern waters of the Sunda Strait. This mitigation measure was taken in response to increased volcanic activity, which has now been raised to Level III or Alert status.
Head of the Lebak Regency BPBD, Sukanta, emphasized that potential hazards such as glowing rock ejecta from eruptions pose a real threat to fishing vessels passing near the volcano's center of activity. This warning is specifically directed at fishing communities in Binuangeun Beach, Panggarangan, Bayah, to Cihara so they do not take risks by sailing toward the zones affected by GAK's activity.
In addition to safety warnings, authorities also asked the public to be wise in receiving information. Residents are advised to always verify data through official channels of authorized agencies, such as PVMBG, BMKG, or BPBD, to counter the spread of fake news or hoaxes that could trigger public unrest.
To date, conditions along the southern coast remain relatively conducive. Although GAK is showing increased activity, residents in the western Banten region, such as Labuan and Carita, continue their daily activities normally. Local residents stated they have developed resilience in facing fluctuations in Mount Anak Krakatau's activity, which frequently occur periodically every year.
