The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) has set the status of Mount Anak Krakatau (GAK) at Level III or Alert. To date, tremor earthquake activity is still consistently monitored via recording devices at the Pasauran Observation Post, Serang Regency, Banten, indicating that the potential for eruption persists.
For safety reasons, authorities strongly enforce a strict prohibition against the public and fishermen approaching within a three-kilometer radius from the crater peak. Observation post officer, Deny Mardiono, stated that intensive monitoring continues and the latest progress information will be distributed periodically through official geological agency channels to prevent misinformation.
On the other hand, public concerns regarding tourist destinations along the Banten coast have been dismissed by the local government. Deputy Regent of Serang, Najib Hamas, emphasized that the tourist areas of Anyer, Cinangka, to Carita are at a safe distance, approximately 42 kilometers from the eruption point. At that distance, volcanic material is guaranteed not to reach residential areas or tourist zones.
The local government urges tourists not to hesitate to visit the coastal area as conditions there are monitored to be conducive. Nevertheless, residents are still asked to remain calm, not be provoked by hoaxes, and always refer to official government statements as the main reference in monitoring volcanic activity in the Sunda Strait.
