The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Pandeglang Regency issued an early warning for coastal communities in the Banten region. This preventive measure was taken in response to the status upgrade of Mount Anak Krakatau (GAK) to Level III or Alert (Siaga), indicating an increase in volcanic activity.
Head of the Prevention and Strategy Preparedness Division at BPBD Pandeglang, Acep Firmansyah, stated that his office has instructed government officials from district to village levels to disseminate safety awareness information. This step is taken to ensure disaster mitigation operates optimally without triggering panic among the public.
To date, the situation in the coastal area of Pandeglang remains stable and controlled. Local economic activities, healthcare services, and other public services are reported to be operating normally. However, relevant authorities emphasized the importance of public compliance regarding the designated exclusion zone.
BPBD strictly urges fishermen and tourists to stay outside a five-kilometer radius from the eruption center. This restriction aims to mitigate risks associated with incandescent rock ejecta and other potential unpredictable volcanic hazards.
Meanwhile, local residents, particularly in the Labuan area, appear calm yet watchful. The traumatic experience of the 2018 tsunami serves as a constant reminder for locals not to lower their guard against natural changes, while continuing their daily routines with heightened personal preparedness.
