Mount Anak Krakatau, located in the waters of the Sunda Strait, South Lampung Regency, has once again shown a significant increase in volcanic activity. The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) recorded that 19 eruptions occurred between June and July 2026.
The Head of the Mount Anak Krakatau Monitoring Post in Hargopancuran, Suwarno, stated that his team continues to conduct close surveillance on the volcano's conditions. Monitoring is carried out intensively, both through visual observations and the use of instrumental data to map the latest volcanic activity dynamics.
Based on technical reports, monitoring instruments continue to record seismic activity and emissions of volcanic material. This phenomenon is a strong indicator that the conditions of Mount Anak Krakatau's magma chamber have not yet shown any significant signs of declining activity.
As an anticipatory measure against potential threats, the Geological Agency has officially raised the status of Mount Anak Krakatau from Level II (Watch) to Level III (Alert) since early July 2026. The public and tourists are urged to remain compliant with all mitigation recommendations set by the authorities to ensure public safety.
