Amid the shifting global automotive trend that is beginning to prioritize hybrid vehicles, battery technology manufacturer Molicel has officially introduced its latest innovation, the INR-21700-P70X series. This flagship product from the PX line was showcased at the Advanced Automotive Battery Conference (AABC) Europe 2026. The new generation battery is specifically designed to combine the advantages of lithium-ion batteries and supercapacitor performance to meet new automotive industry standards.

This strategic move by Molicel coincides with the slowing growth of the battery electric vehicle (BEV) market. According to projections by the International Energy Agency (IEA) for 2026, global automakers are now increasingly prioritizing the development of hybrid cars. This phenomenon is clearly visible in the United States and Europe, where the market share of hybrid cars has reached around 20 percent and 24 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, the Asia-Pacific region dominates the global market, accounting for more than half of the world's hybrid car market value.

These dynamic market conditions demand battery technology capable of discharging high power instantly while storing energy at an optimal capacity. In response to this challenge, the INR-21700-P70X battery features a capacity of 7,000 mAh and an energy density of up to 340 Wh/kg. The battery can deliver a peak power of up to 900 watts within five seconds, which is crucial for providing rapid acceleration and optimizing regenerative braking systems.

In addition to responsive performance, driving safety is also a major highlight. The battery has met the UL9540A international safety standard thanks to the implementation of single-crystal technology. This innovation is claimed to cut heat release by up to 50 percent compared to conventional battery materials. In the event of extreme conditions, these battery cells are designed not to explode simultaneously, but instead to only emit smoke to prevent further heat propagation.

In terms of durability, Molicel's next-generation battery shows extraordinary endurance that surpasses the lifespan of a typical vehicle. In intensive testing, the battery maintained up to 96 percent of its capacity even after 1 million charging cycles. This advantage is projected to reduce warranty cost burdens for automakers while accelerating the global adoption of eco-friendly vehicles.
