The Health Office of Bener Meriah Regency has taken proactive steps in maintaining health within the correctional facility environment by organizing Free Health Checks (CKG) at the Class IIB Bener Meriah State Detention Center (Rutan). This activity targets all prison officers and inmates as an effort for early detection and prevention of the spread of infectious diseases.
This social and medical action was initiated by the Public Health Division (Kesmas) and the Disease Prevention and Control Division (P2P) of the local Health Office. In its implementation, the office collaborated with the medical team from the Pante Raya Community Health Center (Puskesmas) to ensure all targets received optimal examinations.
The Head of the Public Health Division, Hajjah, representing the Acting Head of the Bener Meriah Health Office, explained that this activity is a follow-up to instructions from the Directorate General of Corrections of the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. The program focuses on chest X-ray examinations and optimizing health monitoring features to reduce the risk of disease transmission within the detention center.
Through this regular screening, medical officers are expected to quickly map the health status of inmates and detention center staff. This anticipatory step is considered crucial so that the chain of infectious disease transmission can be immediately broken before spreading in the detention center environment, which has high social interaction.
The agenda for the free health checks was warmly welcomed by the Head of the Class IIB Bener Meriah Detention Center and his staff. This cross-sector collaboration is expected to continue to ensure the right to proper health services for inmates.
