The volcanic activity of Mount Anak Krakatau, located in the Sunda Strait, has once again shown a significant increase in intensity. Based on monitoring data from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), 18 eruptions were recorded over the past week, with ash columns reaching heights of 100 to 200 meters above the crater peak.
Responding to this escalation in activity, the Geological Agency has officially raised the volcano's status to Level III (Alert). This policy was implemented as a mitigation measure to minimize risks for people active within the hazard radius, particularly residents in the coastal areas of Banten and Lampung provinces.
Responding to public concern regarding the impact of the eruptions on the tourism sector, the Banten Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has provided safety assurances. The agency emphasized that tourist areas in the Banten region currently remain safe for tourists to visit.
Nevertheless, relevant authorities continue to urge both the public and tourists to always monitor official information from government agencies. Visitors are requested not to approach the exclusion zone established by the PVMBG to ensure mutual safety during this period of heightened volcanic status.
