The Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has reiterated its warning for the public following the volcanic activity of Mount Anak Krakatau, which remains at Level III or Alert status. As of Wednesday (8/7/2026), the volcano located in the Sunda Strait continues to display intense seismic and visual activity.
Based on official reports from the Mount Anak Krakatau Observation Post, personnel observed smoke emissions from the active crater reaching heights of 10 to 100 meters above the summit. The white smoke, ranging from medium to thick intensity, exhibited weak but consistent pressure, indicating ongoing subsurface magma dynamics.
Volcanic monitoring authorities also noted continuous tremor activity or microtremors detected via seismograms. These vibrations had a dominant amplitude of around 5 millimeters, serving as an indicator of fluid or magma movement within the volcano. Although meteorological conditions around the elevation of 157 meters above sea level were observed to be clear with calm water conditions, the potential threat of an eruption remains a primary concern.
To ensure public safety, the Geological Agency strictly prohibits residents, tourists, and climbers from approaching or conducting any activities within a three-kilometer radius of the active crater. This preventive measure was taken to minimize risks arising from the unpredictable fluctuations in volcanic activity.
