The arrest of telematics expert Roy Suryo and Dr. Tifauzia Tyassuma (Dr. Tifa) by the Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police (Polda Metro Jaya) on Friday (19/6/2026) has not only drawn attention from a law enforcement perspective, but has also sparked speculation regarding national political dynamics. Both were arrested over alleged accusations regarding the fake diploma of the 7th President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo.

Political observer Agung Baskoro assesses that this case carries a fairly strong political dimension. According to him, the detention of these two figures is predicted to prompt political factions opposing the previous administration to actively monitor the case once again. This step is believed to generate commotion on the country's political stage.

Agung added that this case presents a distinct test for President Prabowo Subianto's administration in demonstrating its stance. The public is now watching closely whether the government will remain neutral or become entangled in a vortex of polemics involving parties with high resistance to former President Jokowi's past policies.

Furthermore, Agung highlighted the enduring strength of Jokowi's influence, often referred to as the Jokowi Effect. Despite having stepped down from office, this influence is still considered tangible given the presence of Jokowi's family members holding strategic positions in government and political parties, such as the Vice President, the Chairman of PSI, and the Governor of North Sumatra.

Meanwhile, from a legal standpoint, both suspects are currently undergoing medical observation at the Police Hospital (RS Polri). Their legal counsel, Refly Harun, explained that although his clients' condition is relatively stable, the medical team recommended hospitalization due to pre-existing conditions requiring close monitoring. As of now, there is no certainty regarding the duration of the treatment period, as the entire recovery process relies entirely on health progress evaluations by the attending medical team.
