Facing the challenges of the dry season, which has the potential to lower productivity in the fisheries sector, the Malang Regency Government is taking preventive measures by optimizing the use of aerator technology in fish farmers' ponds. This step was taken to ensure oxygen levels in the water remain maintained, significantly minimizing the risk of mass mortality among freshwater fish.

Head of the Malang Regency Fisheries Department, Victor Sembiring, explained that optimizing aerators is part of a broader strategy to maintain stable fisheries production in the region. According to him, utilizing this technology is crucial to preserving the pond ecosystem so that it remains viable for fish growth even amidst extreme weather conditions.

In addition to technical intervention, the local government is also strengthening support for the implementation of Good Aquaculture Practices (CBIB) among fish farmers. These measures include regular monitoring of water quality, the use of superior fish seeds with high resilience, and the adoption of modern farming systems such as biofloc and Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS).

Victor added that these efforts are supported by cross-sectoral coordination in water resource management and the use of climate data as a reference for field decision-making. All fish farmers are also provided with technical guidance to enhance their capacity to manage their businesses professionally.

Currently, aquaculture production from Malang Regency not only supports local needs but also serves as a backbone of supply for various regions in East Java, including Malang City, Batu, Surabaya, and Blitar. Based on data, about 20 to 30 percent of total fish production in Malang Regency is distributed to markets outside the area as a tangible contribution to regional food security.
