A video recording showing a violent eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau at night from the perspective of a ship caused a stir on social media. The dramatic visuals sparked public concern regarding the current activity of the volcano located in the Sunda Strait.
In response to the concern, the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), under the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), immediately provided an official clarification. The authorities stated that the video is untrue and is false information or a hoax deliberately spread by irresponsible parties.
To date, PVMBG emphasizes that the volcanic activity of Mount Anak Krakatau remains under close surveillance. Based on the latest monitoring, the volcano's status is still set at Level III or Alert (Siaga), so the public is urged to always monitor information from official government channels and not easily believe visual content whose truth has not been verified.
