Statistics Indonesia (BPS) has officially clarified public concerns regarding the implementation of the Economic Census. The statistical authority emphasized that all data collected from respondents in the field is guaranteed to remain confidential and has no connection whatsoever to tax policies.
This step was taken following a dichotomy of information in the public sphere, where real support from the public for the field census appears to be quite solid, yet narratives of rejection are more massive and vocal across various social media platforms. BPS deems it important to rectify the erroneous assumption that the census is a government instrument used to target new tax subjects.
The government hopes the public will provide accurate and cooperative answers to census officers. The collected data will be used entirely to map the national macro-economic potential, serving as the primary benchmark in formulating future economic development policies to be more targeted and inclusive for all levels of society.
