The Murung Raya Regency Government (Pemkab Mura) has officially launched a strategic step in drafting the 2026 Regional Sports Design Document. The formulation of this new policy direction began with a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) officially opened by the Regent of Murung Raya, Heriyus, at GPU Tira Tangka Balang, Puruk Cahu.
Under the theme "Sports Transformation Towards Sport Tourism," the event was initiated by the Murung Raya Regency Youth, Sports, and Tourism Department (DKOP). This step aims to integrate sports sector development programs with the optimization of regional tourism potential in an integrated manner.
The discussion agenda was also attended by the Acting Regional Secretary of Murung Raya Regency, Sarwo Mintarjo, representing the Chairman of KONI Murung Raya, Bertho K. Kondrat. Also present were several heads of departments, sports organization officials, academics, tourism business operators, and various related stakeholders.
Head of DKOP Murung Raya, Jayadie Y. Dadi, explained that this regional sports design document will serve as a strategic guideline. It is hoped that this guide will foster sustainable athlete development while driving regional economic growth through hosting various large-scale sporting events.
To enrich the drafting process, the committee invited two experts from Central Kalimantan Province. They were Adi Nur Fajar, Head of the Sports Achievement Improvement Division at the Central Kalimantan Dispora, and Arief Nur Wahyudi, a physical education lecturer at the University of Palangka Raya, who provided scientific perspectives on sports tourism development strategies based on local wisdom.
In his speech, Regent Heriyus emphasized that today's sports world must not focus solely on achieving success on the field. According to him, the potential of sports tourism has strong appeal to introduce Murung Raya's natural and cultural wealth at the national level, while boosting the local economy.
Closing his address, Heriyus urged all policy makers, businesses, academics, and the wider community to strengthen collaboration. This synergy is considered crucial to creating an action plan document that is applicable, adaptive, and capable of building a more advanced and competitive regional sports ecosystem.
