Public participation in Riau Province's free health checkup program as of late June 2026 remains sub-optimal. According to data from the Riau Health Agency (Diskes), out of a target population of 6.8 million people, only about 1.02 million residents, or 14.9 percent, have utilized the service.
Head of the Riau Health Agency, Zulkifli, emphasized that this coverage figure is a serious concern for the regional government. Speaking in Pekanbaru, he highlighted the need to accelerate service access to support the national health program initiated by the central government.
As a strategic step, the Riau Health Agency has intensified coordination with health agency offices at the regency and municipal levels. This effort aims to evaluate field challenges while ensuring all health facilities are prepared to deliver excellent service to the public.
For residents wishing to access this service, the process is relatively straightforward. People only need to visit the nearest community health center (puskesmas) with population identity documents, such as an ID card (KTP) or Family Card (KK). Staff at the health center will assist residents in completing the registration form.
Currently, the Riau Provincial Government has prepared 243 health centers across the region to offer free health checks. Zulkifli hopes the public will take advantage of these facilities at least once a year for early detection, enabling faster and more effective treatment or health mitigation.
