Youth experiences often serve as a blueprint for one's life journey. For Geisz Chalifah, his teenage years in Jakarta were filled with typical urban dynamics, from mountain climbing and watching movies in local public cinemas to reading literature and mingling closely with the Chinese-Indonesian community in the Hayam Wuruk area. This phase shaped a dynamic early character before he entered the more formal academic world.
Entering higher education, his life direction took a significant turn when he decided to join the Leadership Basic Training of the Islamic Association of University Students (HMI). This involvement opened the gateway to an intense intellectual world. His activities shifted from youth hobbies to the stage of scholarly discussions, writing opinion pieces in mass media, and close interaction with national thinkers such as Nurcholish Madjid (Cak Nur), Arief Budiman, and Adi Sasono.
However, life does not always remain on the academic pulpit. Geisz was later confronted with the reality of practical business, which demanded physical hard work and real responsibility. From debating global geopolitics, he had to transition to managing the operations of delivering ceramics using an open-deck pickup truck to ensure orders reached consumers on time.
The next phase in the construction sector brought even deeper life lessons. Interacting directly with foremen and construction workers provided an empirical understanding that the strength of a building is determined by the precision of installing the bouwplank (profile boards) and the strength of the foundation on stable ground. This field experience proved that valuable knowledge is not only born in classrooms but also from the practical expertise of field workers.
Through his writings in the column "Hitam Manies Prita Ayu Tercinta", Geisz reflects that integrity and resilience are not built on abstract theories. A solid life is actually formed by consistency in maintaining trust, readiness to shoulder daily responsibilities, and diligence in building life's foundation step by step with patience.
