A serious cybersecurity incident has hit Apple's production line after Tata Electronics, an Indian iPhone assembler, was reportedly victimized by a cyberattack. This breach resulted in a series of internal company documents, component supplier lists, and even prototype photos of the iPhone 18 Pro being widely circulated on the dark web.
The ransomware group responsible for the breach, World Leaks, posted a preview dataset containing detailed component specifications set to be used in the upcoming iPhone series. Reports indicate that World Leaks is a new entity believed to be a rebrand or transformation of the Hunters International group, which ceased operations in mid-2025.
Unlike conventional ransomware modus operandi that tends to lock data through encryption, World Leaks focuses on extortion tactics via data theft. They threaten to release all sensitive victim information if their demands are not met, a method increasingly favored by international hacker groups.
This data leak is a severe blow to Apple's secrecy strategy, particularly regarding details of its global supply chain, which have traditionally been strictly guarded. Information about component supplier lists represents a strategic corporate asset, raising fears that publishing such details could disrupt operational stability and the manufacturing ecosystem Apple has built over the years.
