A family dispute triggered by a conflict over the tobacco leaf trading business in Banyuwangi Regency almost ended in a bloody tragedy. A man named Tolak was forced to report his own relative to the Wongsorejo Police Station after receiving violent threats involving a sickle-type sharp weapon.
Tolak, accompanied by his wife Kartika, went to the police station on Wednesday night to seek legal protection. This step was taken because he felt his safety was threatened after a standoff with the perpetrator, Bambang Sutrisno, who is related to him as his brother-in-law.
According to Tolak's account, the incident began when Bambang suddenly approached him carrying a sickle that had been hidden under his clothes. As the distance closed, Bambang immediately brandished the sharp weapon, forcing Tolak to quickly dodge to save himself. Fortunately, local residents intervened immediately before a physical clash could occur.
Tolak admitted to being traumatized and worried that similar threats would recur in the future since this conflict has been ongoing for a long time. On the other hand, Bambang did not deny carrying a sharp weapon when meeting Tolak. He argued that the reckless action was triggered by long-standing unresolved issues between them.
The Head of Pancoran Hamlet, Edi Sucipno, confirmed the commotion. Edi explained that he immediately rushed to the scene after receiving initial reports of a potential armed clash or carok (traditional sickle duel), although the situation had calmed down by the time he arrived.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at Wongsorejo Police, Aipda Oktorio Wisnu Pradana, stated that the police have received an official report and are conducting a further investigation. Investigators are currently questioning witnesses to uncover the full motive and follow up on the suspected criminal elements in this case.
