PT Elnusa Tbk (ELSA) has made new history in the national upstream oil and gas industry by successfully implementing the first offshore Chemical Enhanced Oil Recovery (CEOR) method in Indonesia. This pilot project was realized in the Rama Field, working area of Pertamina Hulu Energi Offshore Southeast Sumatra (PHE OSES), as a concrete step in optimizing production from mature oil wells.

This breakthrough utilizes offshore polymer flooding technology to stimulate the productivity of mature fields that are naturally experiencing production decline. The success of the maiden operation, which began in early July 2026, is the result of strategic collaboration between SKK Migas, PT Pertamina (Persero), PHE OSES, and the Elnusa Group.

Elnusa Corporate Secretary, Rustam Aji, emphasized that this achievement proves the high competence of domestic experts in mastering advanced upstream oil and gas technology. According to him, the success of this pilot project not only strengthens national energy security but also increases Elnusa's bargaining power in the regional energy services market.

In its execution, Elnusa appointed its subsidiary, PT Elnusa Petrofin, as the main operator in the field. This subsidiary manages the entire integrated work chain, starting from the supply of specialized polymer materials, the operation of injection units, to technical management on the offshore platform with strict risk mitigation protocols.

This innovative step is supported by strategic investments made by the company to modernize work equipment in various lines of upstream oil and gas services. Elnusa's Business Development Director, Arief Prasetyo Handoyo, explained that capital expenditure was focused on strengthening the company's core competencies to align with evolving market needs.

The technology rejuvenation includes updating advanced navigation systems for marine surveys, procuring the latest generation of coiled tubing units for well intervention, and Passive Geobit devices for more accurate subsurface monitoring. Through cost efficiency and the application of appropriate technology, Elnusa is optimistic about providing a sustainable contribution to the national energy industry.
