The Faculty of Pharmacy of Universitas Airlangga (FF UNAIR) has officially partnered with the Food and Drug Authority (BPOM) to initiate a program to Increase Regulatory Literacy in the fields of Natural Medicines, Quasi Medicines, Health Supplements, and Cosmetics, known as PATRIOTISME. The program, which took place on Wednesday (8/7/2026) at the MERR-C Campus, aims to equip students and academics with a deep understanding of product safety standards and regulations applicable in the country.

Director of Registration of Traditional Medicines, Health Supplements, and Cosmetics of BPOM, Dra. Imelda Estheriana, emphasized the importance of synergy between the research world and industry needs. She highlighted how many research results go to waste because they fail to be downstreamed due to non-compliance with commercial regulations. Through the BRIDGE platform (Bersinergi dalam Riset Inovatif berDaya saing Global dan Ekspansi pasar / Synergizing in Innovative Research with Global Competitiveness and Market Expansion), BPOM seeks to facilitate students and lecturers to bridge their innovations to the wider industrial sector.

As a form of concrete support, BPOM has partnered with GP Jamu, Perkosmi, and APSKI to provide a fast-track licensing process for research products emerging from the BRIDGE platform. This step was taken to ensure that innovations from universities can be absorbed by businesses, including MSMEs with limited independent research facilities.

Director of Standardization of Traditional Medicines, Health Supplements, and Cosmetics of BPOM, Dian Putri Anggraweni, emphasized that drug and food control is a collective responsibility between the government as the regulator, businesses, and the public as consumers. She also provided basic education on the classification of natural medicines under Law No. 17 of 2023, which is divided into the categories of Jamu, Standardized Herbal Medicine (OHT), and Phytopharmaceuticals.

Closing the session, students were invited to cultivate the "Cek KLIK" campaign (Check Packaging, Label, Marketing Authorization, and Expiration Date) in every product consumption activity. To facilitate independent access to regulatory information, BPOM now provides an artificial intelligence (AI)-based consulting service called Prima, which can be accessed 24/7.
