A community service team from the Mechanical Engineering Department of Bali State Polytechnic (PNB) has successfully provided an appropriate technology solution for small business owners in Denpasar. Funded by DIPA PNB 2026, the academics designed an aromatic column distillation device based on an automatic temperature control system (thermo control) to support the operations of MSME Fruythatop in Peguyangan Kangin Village.

Prior to this technological intervention, MSME Fruythatop still relied on conventional distillation methods, which suffered from issues regarding product quality consistency and energy efficiency. The innovation, led by I Gd Nym Suta Waisnawa, was specially designed to stabilize temperature during the distillation process, thereby significantly optimizing production yield.

Over the four-month mentoring period, the interdisciplinary PNB team not only handed over the hardware but also provided intensive training on operating and maintaining the equipment. This collaboration yielded tangible results, with average production capacity increasing by up to 62 percent. Specifically for noni fruit processing, production efficiency surged by up to 75 percent.

I Gd Nym Suta Waisnawa emphasized that this initiative reflects the commitment of vocational higher education institutions to transforming laboratory research into practical solutions for the business world. With this technology, MSMEs are expected to enhance the competitiveness of local Balinese products in a broader market while maintaining sustainable quality standards.
