The Badung Regency Government has officially commenced a series of sports events entitled the 2026 Badung Regent's Cup. A total of 40 sports championships will be held throughout this year as a strategic step to transform the region into a sports tourism hub reckoned with on both national and international stages.
Marking the start of this series, the Badung Finswimming Open 2026 was officially opened, involving 519 athletes from 32 regional boards across Indonesia, alongside international participants from South Korea. This swimming competition is held not only at the Tirta Arum pool facility but also utilizes the maritime potential of Muaya Beach, Jimbaran, as an open water arena.
Regent of Badung, I Wayan Adi Arnawa, emphasized the importance of synergy between athlete development and strengthening the tourism sector. He instructed KONI Badung to prepare a systematic event calendar so that competition agendas run regularly throughout the year. According to him, consistency in holding championships is key to attracting sports tourists, including both athletes and supporting officials.
To realize this ambition, the Badung Regency Government is committed to strengthening infrastructure. Plans to build a new stadium in the Abiansemal area and international-standard swimming pool facilities have been prepared. This construction aims to accommodate future world championships, with facility standards carefully and professionally designed.
General Chairman of PB POSSI, Police Commissioner General Makhruzi Rahman, expressed high appreciation for this initiative. He noted that sustainable competition is the main foundation for developing high-performing athletes from an early age. Echoing this sentiment, Chairman of KONI Badung, I Made Sutama, stated that this series of tournaments serves as a crucial evaluation tool for Badung athletes before competing in the 2027 Bali Porprov, aiming to defend the general champion title for the 11th time.
