Elon Musk has officially carried out a major shake-up in his technology business structure. His artificial intelligence company, previously known as xAI, has now transformed into SpaceXAI. This announcement was made directly through the company's official social media account on Tuesday (7/7/2026), while also introducing a new visual identity in the form of a logo that combines SpaceX's iconic elements with AI identity.
This rebranding represents the final step of an acquisition process that has been underway since last February. With this change, Musk's entire technology portfolio, including the Grok chatbot and various other AI model developments, now falls under the SpaceX corporate umbrella. This strategic move reflects Musk's ambition to create a mutually integrated technology ecosystem, ranging from social media to space exploration.
This merger is not merely a name change, but rather the foundation for Musk's long-term vision of developing advanced computing infrastructure. One of the main focuses of this integration is the plan to build AI data centers in Earth's orbit. Musk argues that future energy requirements for AI computing will be massive, making placing data facilities in space a more efficient and sustainable solution than relying on ground-based infrastructure.
In line with that vision, SpaceX had previously submitted a proposal to build an orbital data center as the main supporter of satellite-based AI computing. This step reinforces SpaceX's role not just as a space transportation company, but as a pioneer in combining satellite technology, communication, and artificial intelligence into a single comprehensive global ecosystem.
