The Lembata Regency Government officially held a thematic discussion titled "The Existence of Lamaholot Culture in the Digital Era" as the main event of the 2026 Lamaholot Festival. The event, held in the Wulen Luo Beach area, Lewoleba, on Saturday (4/7/2026), served as a strategic platform for the government and community elements to map out the future of preserving ancestral heritage through a technological approach.
This discussion involved several key stakeholders, including the Head of the Library and Archives Department Anselmus Ola, the Head of Bappelitbangda Matias A.K. Beyeng, as well as representatives from related departments such as Tourism and Communication & Information Technology. The presence of foreign tourists also provided a global perspective on how the uniqueness of local traditions can be digitally packaged to be more relevant in the international market.
The main focus of the discussion covered digital-based documentation methods and the optimization of online platforms to promote local Lamaholot wisdom. Experts emphasized that digitalization is not just a trend, but a vital instrument to ensure cultural sustainability without sacrificing the essence of traditions passed down through generations.
