Mount Karangetang, located in the Siau Tagulandang Biaro (Sitaro) Islands Regency, North Sulawesi, reportedly showed volcanic activity again in the form of an eruption on Sunday (13/7) evening. This event triggered a firm warning from relevant authorities for the public to increase vigilance for their safety.
The Head of the Sulawesi-Maluku Volcano Observation and Land Movement Disaster Mitigation Agency (PGAMBGT Suma), Zakarias Dedu Ghele Raja, explained that the eruption was detected coming from the North Crater at 19:14 WITA. This natural phenomenon was clearly recorded and has circulated via video documentation among the local community.
Although the status of Mount Karangetang is currently still set at Level II (Alert), authorities emphasize that all residents and climbers must not approach the crater within a 1.5-kilometer radius. This access restriction is crucial given the potential threat of volcanic material that could endanger residents around the area.
