Mount Karangetang, located in the Siau Tagulandang Biaro (Sitaro) Islands Regency, North Sulawesi, showed significant volcanic activity again on Sunday (12/7/2026) night. An explosive eruption was observed at precisely 19:20 WITA.
Based on a report from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), officers from the Volcano Observation Post (PGA) were immediately deployed to the field to conduct intensive monitoring. This natural phenomenon caused the sky around the mountain area to turn reddish due to the ejection of incandescent lava spewing into the air.
To date, authorities continue cross-sectoral coordination as an early mitigation step to ensure the safety of residents around the mountain slopes. Although the eruptive activity appeared quite intense, relevant authorities confirmed that no casualties have been reported in this incident.
PVMBG is still preparing an in-depth report regarding the latest developments in the field. Residents are urged to remain calm yet vigilant and to keep monitoring official directives from local authorities to anticipate the possibility of further increased volcanic activity.
