Mount Merapi, located on the border of the Special Region of Yogyakarta and Central Java, showed significant volcanic activity again on Monday (6/7/2026) morning. The Geological Disaster Technology Research and Development Center (BPPTKG) recorded a pyroclastic flow traveling up to 1,700 meters at 08:28 WIB.
According to official BPPTKG data, the pyroclastic flow moved southwest toward the upper reaches of the Krasak River, lasting for 103.55 seconds with a maximum amplitude of 32.92 mm. To date, disaster authorities continue to maintain Mount Merapi's alert status at Level III (Alert).
In addition to the pyroclastic flow event, monitoring from 00:00 to 06:00 WIB revealed fairly intense seismic activity. A total of 18 rockfall earthquakes and 21 hybrid/multi-phase earthquakes were recorded. Visually, officers also documented three lava avalanches moving southwest toward the Krasak and Sat/Putih Rivers, with a maximum travel distance of 1,500 meters.
In response to this increased activity, the BPPTKG reiterated its warning for residents to refrain from any activities within the hazard zone and to stay away from river channels originating from Mount Merapi. The public is urged to continue monitoring official information and follow all instructions from local authorities for collective safety.
