A tragic story has enveloped Wonosobo Regency, Central Java, after two teenagers reported missing for nearly two weeks on Mount Bismo were finally found dead. The bodies of the two victims were discovered at the bottom of a 200-meter-deep ravine on the southern slope of the mountain on Sunday (12/7) afternoon.
The victims were identified as Alfin Nur Rohmat (18) and Yufaidin (15), residents of Krinjing Village, Watumalang District, Wonosobo. The two were known to have entered the Mount Bismo forest area on Tuesday (30/6) afternoon. According to witness statements, they did not intend to do an official hike, but were only carrying out routine activities in the mountain area with minimal logistics, consisting only of snacks.
The search process faced major obstacles, leading to the official search operation being temporarily called off on Saturday (11/7). However, the persistence of the volunteer team from the Wanadri Forest Explorers and Mountain Climbers Association paid off. On Sunday afternoon at around 13:00 WIB, the team detected a strong odor near a steep cliff near Curug Tiga, which then led them to the location where the bodies of the two victims were found, positioned far apart from each other.
The evacuation terrain was classified as extremely challenging due to the steepness of the cliff and the density of the forest vegetation on the southern slope of Mount Bismo, which blocked out sunlight. The joint SAR team had to set up a double anchor safety rope system stretching up to 200 meters to reach the bottom of the ravine. After a grueling evacuation process that lasted until nightfall, the bodies of both victims were immediately taken to the hospital before being handed over to their families for burial.
