The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Authority (BB TNBTS) has officially announced the closure of hiking trails to Mount Semeru. This policy was implemented out of respect for the traditional series of ceremonies of Hari Raya Karo held by the Tengger community, particularly in Ranupani Village, Lumajang Regency.
Head of BB TNBTS, Rudijanta Tjahja Nugraha, stated that the closure of hiking access will take effect from Friday, August 7, 2026, to Tuesday, August 18, 2026. All hikers are required to ensure they have descended from the trail and arrived back in Ranupani no later than Friday, August 7, 2026, at 16:00 WIB.
For hikers affected by this closure, especially those who had previously rescheduled due to the 2025 eruption, the management assures that a solution will be provided. Further information regarding the rescheduling mechanism will be communicated directly to group leaders via the WhatsApp contact registered in the official booking system.
Although the main hiking trail is closed, BB TNBTS continues to open access to the tourist and camping area at Ranu Regulo for visitors who wish to enjoy the natural beauty of the region. Mount Semeru hiking activities are scheduled to reopen normally on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, via the online registration system on the official website bromotenggersemeru.id.
