The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Center (TNBTS) has officially announced the closure of the Mount Semeru climbing route. This policy has been implemented to respect the observance of Hari Raya Karo, a sacred celebration for the Tengger tribe community in Ranupani Village.
Based on the official announcement letter number PG.16/T.8/TU/HMS.01.08/B/07/2026, climbing activities on the tallest mountain in Java will be temporarily suspended from August 7 to 18, 2026. This decision was made as a commitment to maintaining the sacredness of the traditional rituals while ensuring the smooth execution of the activities held by local residents to honor their ancestors.
The management has set the final date for climbing to be allowed until August 6, 2026. All climbers on the trail are required to have returned to the Ranupani post by August 7, 2026, at 4:00 PM WIB (Western Indonesian Time) at the latest. The climbing route is scheduled to reopen to the public on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
For climbers who have scheduled departures during this period, the TNBTS authority is providing rescheduling facilities. Technical details regarding the schedule change process will be sent directly via WhatsApp to the group leader registered in the official booking system.
Although climbing to the summit of Semeru is closed, TNBTS authorities confirm that the tourism area and camping grounds in Ranu Regulo remain open to the public. Local residents and tourists planning a visit are expected to adjust their travel schedules according to this latest announcement.
