Indonesia is currently pioneering strategic steps in the development of the rare earth industry through collaboration with India. The main focus of this initiative includes the transfer of mineral separation and refining technology, as well as the development of high-value-added domestic magnet production capabilities.
Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Brian Yuliarto, revealed that both countries are currently in the process of finalizing the cooperation. The Indonesian government is committed to ensuring that the technology transfer process runs effectively to support the independence of the domestic strategic mineral processing industry.
In this concrete effort, a joint team from PT Perusahaan Mineral Nasional (Perminas) and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) has conducted a series of visits to India. This step was taken to directly review India's technological capabilities, which are considered proficient in the refining and fabrication sectors based on rare earth elements.
The government emphasized that the grand vision of this partnership is not just an exchange of knowledge, but the direct establishment of industrial facilities in Indonesia. By leveraging India's technological advantages, Indonesia targets to accelerate the mastery of downstream industries, which is expected to increase the economic value of national mineral resources in the global market.
