Indonesia has officially initiated the road to the 3rd Global Forum for Sustainable Resilience (GFSR) 2026 through a National Seminar themed "Towards Sustainable Resilience" in Jakarta. Initiated by the National Disaster Management Authority (BNPB) alongside the SIAP SIAGA partnership program, this initiative serves as a strategic step leading up to the international forum scheduled for September 2026.
Senior Program Manager for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade at the Australian Embassy, Riri Silalahi, emphasized the importance of moving away from fragmented approaches when facing global challenges. In her view, cross-sector collaboration is key to translating international commitments into concrete actions that directly impact community resilience to disasters.
Under the theme "Integrate the Architecture: Unifying Governance for Resilience," the seminar brought together various stakeholders, including government representatives, academics, and private sector actors. The main focus is the alignment between the Paris Agreement, the Sendai Framework, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to ensure policies are no longer siloed but reinforce each other in planning and financing.
Boby Wahyu Hernawan from the Ministry of Finance added that continuous policy dialogue is crucial for ensuring that the resulting recommendations have a strong empirical basis. This approach ensures that every step toward 2030 does not start from scratch, but builds upon best practices and lessons learned from early field implementation.
To strengthen the technical aspect, GFSR 2026 will be held alongside The 5th Asia Disaster Management and Civil Protection Expo & Conference (ADEXCO). This synergy is expected to serve as an ideal platform where disaster technology innovation can meet policy needs, ensuring that the resulting solutions are more relevant, applicable, and ready to be implemented globally.
