A delegation team from the Faculty of Medicine, Syiah Kuala University (FK USK) has successfully brought honor to Indonesia on the world stage. In the prestigious Policy Brief Competition at WORLD (Global Student Awards for Health) X GALAXY 3.0, the team consisting of Muhammad Haris’t, Muhammad Faiz Akbar, and Rais Aulia won 3rd Place thanks to their innovative idea.
Their scientific paper titled “Beyond Emergency Aid: A Tiered Health Financing Model for Sustainable Refugee Healthcare Access” was the key to their success. This innovation offers a solution to the unstable refugee health financing system, which has so far relied heavily on short-term humanitarian aid.
Team leader Muhammad Haris’t explained that the model they designed prioritizes a tiered financing system. This strategy integrates emergency funding with the host country's national health system, as well as incorporating long-term development financing mechanisms. The approach is designed to create more equitable and sustainable healthcare access for refugees, particularly for managing chronic illnesses.
Vice Rector for Student Affairs and Entrepreneurship at USK, Dr. Rina Suryani Oktari, expressed high appreciation for the achievement. She noted that this success reflects the strong academic competence of USK students and their deep concern for increasingly complex global humanitarian issues.
This success in an international competition further strengthens USK's position as an educational institution that consistently fosters a culture of research and innovation among students. It is hoped that the policy model proposed by these students can serve as a strategic reference for policymakers in strengthening global health systems for vulnerable groups.
