PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) is implementing a comprehensive strategy to boost national oil and gas production. President Director of PHR, Muhamad Arifin, explained that the company is currently focusing exploitation on Non-Conventional Oil and Gas (NCOG) potential in the Rokan Working Area, specifically through the development of the Gulamo and Kelok wells. This step is taken as an anticipatory measure to mitigate the natural production decline rate of the mature oil wells managed by the company.
As a primary instrument to boost efficiency, PHR is adopting Chemical Enhanced Oil Recovery (CEOR) techniques using local components. This innovation is targeted to increase oil recovery by up to 20%. In the Minas field, the implementation of chemical injection, which has been underway since 2025, has successfully increased production by 2,800 barrels of oil per day (BOPD), with projected output reaching 70,000 BOPD by 2028.
On the operational side, digital transformation has become PHR's backbone through the Digital Innovation Center (DAS). This facility facilitates real-time monitoring of all work activities involving around 44,000 personnel across 17 regencies in Riau Province. The digital command center ensures that field coordination remains effective and efficient to support the national energy self-sufficiency target.
In addition to focusing on production quantity, PHR is fully committed to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. The company's oil and gas development strategy is carried out aggressively yet responsibly by reducing CO2 carbon emissions. This policy also serves as proof of the company's readiness to support the sustainable energy transition in Indonesia.
