Revolut, the global digital banking company, has officially introduced a new breakthrough in payment systems with the launch of a special Mastercard in the German market. This card not only functions as a transaction tool but also features visual appeal in the form of an integrated LED light that illuminates the eyes of the dog icon when users make a contactless payment.

Behind this futuristic design, the card uses a clever principle of electromagnetic induction. Without requiring an internal battery, the card is able to capture the magnetic field energy emitted by EMV payment terminals. Revolut engineers have optimized the induction current—usually used solely to power the security chip—to partially redirect it to light up a small LED panel, a technology previously implemented in public transit systems in several countries.

While emphasizing aesthetics, this card still prioritizes functionality for its users. Revolut is targeting this product as a solution for the crypto asset community, allowing users to link the card to various digital currency portfolios. Flexibility is maintained as users can easily convert these assets into fiat cash via the app for everyday transaction needs.

Currently, the LED-enabled card is priced at around 30 Euros for customers in Germany. Compared to efforts to integrate OLED panels, which tend to be more fragile and complex, Revolut's LED solution is considered superior in terms of durability and practicality, without having to sacrifice the standard thickness of a typical payment card.
