The name of prominent property businessman, Tan Kian, has once again become the public spotlight after the police confirmed his involvement as a witness in the investigation of a corruption case that also implicates the former Jampidsus (Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes) of the Attorney General's Office, Febrie Adriansyah. The Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, stated that Tan Kian is one of 15 witnesses who have been questioned regarding the alleged scandals covering coal corruption, PT Asabri, to Krakatau Steel.
On the other hand, Febrie Adriansyah also responded to the interrogation. Febrie welcomed law enforcement officials to delve deeper into Tan Kian's involvement in various ongoing legal cases, including the Asabri mega-scandal which has been the center of public attention.
Tan Kian is no stranger to the national property business scene. Under the banner of Century Properties Group—formerly known as Dua Mutiara Group—Tan Kian controls a portfolio of prestigious property assets in Jakarta's business center. Some of his flagship assets include Pacific Place Mall in the SCBD area, as well as the luxury JW Marriott and Ritz Carlton hotels in Mega Kuningan, managed through the family company.
Tan Kian's presence in the Indonesian property industry began in the 1990s. His skill in managing assets of fantastic value once placed him among the 40 richest people in Indonesia according to Forbes in 2008. In addition to the hospitality and shopping mall sectors, he also has a track record in developing office buildings such as Centennial Towers as well as exclusive residential areas like Botanica Apartments.
Along with the transition of business leadership to the third generation, Nicholas Tan, Century Properties Group continues to strengthen its position in the national property market. Although once active in social initiatives through the Jakarta Property Institute, Tan Kian's position is now being tested before the law as the investigation process continues, involving his name in various major corruption cases in the country.
