Minister of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Maman Abdurrahman revealed a serious challenge in Indonesia's digital economy ecosystem. Currently, more than 90 percent of MSME actors are reported to have not integrated artificial intelligence (AI) into their business operations, despite the national AI adoption rate in other sectors reaching 92 percent.
During the National Policy Convening Indonesia forum in Jakarta, Maman emphasized that conventional business models are no longer sufficient to sustain tens of millions of MSME actors in the country. According to him, adopting AI is a crucial step to enhance efficiency, productivity, and competitiveness, enabling business actors to adapt to modern market dynamics.
As a strategic measure, the Ministry of MSMEs is developing an integrated digital platform named 'Sapa UMKM'. This platform is designed as a single database unifying various public services, ranging from access to People's Business Credit (KUR) financing and the Free Nutritious Meal program, to training and marketing facilities for business actors.
The government is also committed to providing tangible stimuli for micro and small business actors registered in the system, including a marketplace service fee discount of up to 50 percent. This initiative is expected to accelerate the digital transformation of MSMEs while ensuring equitable access to technology across Indonesia.
