An extraordinary achievement was made by Anjani Rengganis, a seven-year-old child who successfully set foot on the summit of Mount Lawu, at 3,265 meters above sea level. The climb via the Cemoro Sewu route was completed early Sunday morning (6/7/2026), after starting a long journey on Saturday morning.
This journey was no easy feat for a child her age. Facing steep, rocky trails with slopes up to 40 degrees and extreme cold temperatures between 10 and 13 degrees Celsius, Anjani had to fight through fatigue. Her physical and mental endurance was tested when she reached the stretch between Post 2 and Post 3, where she complained about the biting cold and contemplated stopping the climb.
However, behind that fatigue lay a very unique motivation. Rather than being obsessed with the high altitude, Anjani's spirit was reignited when she heard reports that there were cats at Post 5 and the summit area. Her innocent desire to interact with the animals became her main fuel to keep moving forward until she finally reached her goal.
Anjani's success is proof that family support and the right motivation can help children overcome their physical limitations when facing tough challenges. This journey also offers an interesting portrait of how nature can be a place of learning for anyone, including those of a tender age.
