The Mayor of Bima, H. A. Rahman H. Abidin, SE, officially sent off the contingent of athletes and officials from Bima City who will depart for the 12th West Nusa Tenggara Provincial Sports Week (PORPROV) in 2026. The solemn send-off ceremony took place in the courtyard of the Bima Mayor's Office on Monday (7/6/2026), attended by members of the Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda) and local KONI officials.
A total of 530 individuals, consisting of 405 athletes and 125 officials, will compete in 24 sports disciplines. This provincial-level multi-sport event is scheduled to take place from July 16 to 25, 2026, with match venues spread across West Sumbawa Regency and several locations on Lombok Island. A number of sports disciplines have reportedly started their competition schedules earlier, since July 12.
In his directive, the Mayor emphasized the importance of upholding the region's honor in the arena. He asked the athletes not to be intimidated by their opponents, despite differences in supporting facilities. According to him, limited facilities are not an obstacle, but rather a catalyst to showcase their best abilities and high sportsmanship for the pride of Bima City.
Furthermore, the Mayor also delivered a special message to the team officials to maintain solidarity and provide family-like emotional support to the athletes. As a tangible form of government support, he promised to award bonuses to athletes who achieve success, despite the challenges of the region's fiscal condition.
"A target is indeed a number, but our fighting spirit has no limits. I hope the athletes can exceed that target and bring honor to our region through proud achievements," the Mayor concluded at the end of his speech, while offering prayers for the success of the entire contingent during the championship.
